My name is Peter Grey and I started work on money100 mid 2004 and after a great amount of effort it was up and going by July 2006. My interest is in helping people who live in a normal 3 - 4 bedroom house in a normal suburb or town and want to improve their financial situation. People like you and me. I worked for one of the major Banks for over 21 years after entering straight from school as a 17 year old. I was mainly involved in lending, both consumer and business and really enjoyed the discussions with people over how they could improve their financial position. Being involved with thousands of loan applications and seeing how people handled money from day to day was an experience that couldn't be learnt in a class room. My expertise is that I have been at the coal face to speak. Seeing some people head to financial disaster while others head to financial independence when income positions are similar provided a great money education.
I hold diplomas in Accounting & Financial Planning and am a member of the National Institute of Accountants. My interest in helping people grow their money skills has seen me run money courses in my town via the local education centre. This of course can only reach so many people and I was enthusiastic about helping more. Money100 is my contribution. I finished my banking career in 2003 and spent 4 years in an accounting firm. Here I was involved in tax returns and small business advice. I also set up a loan brokerage business and with my financial planning qualifications was authorised to deal in risk insurance (life insurance, income protection, trauma) and superannuation. I have since moved on and am now involved in employment services. I am still helping people and being away from the financial industry full time means I have the energy to work on money100 in the evenings. I live in a small town in country Victoria with my family.
